This edition contains new material about analysis of postmodern drama and a much-needed expansion of the material intended for designers. To some extent, postmodernism could be seen as a form of nonrealism, which was introduced in the previous edition. Several of the nonrealistic plays included could also be considered postmodern, in method if not in necessarily in viewpoint. On the other hand, the special awareness of postmodernism is precisely that difference in viewpoint. Postmodernism is not based on myths and universal meanings, as most nonrealism tends to be, but on a given Weltanschauung [velt-ahn-shou-oo-ng].
