This chapter focused largely on making your land “operational; that is, giving your land natural and human-
created elements with attributes that closely rival their real-world counterparts. High correlation with how
things move or operate in reality is not always necessary, desirable, or in many cases even possiblewe
don’t know with certainty what starships might look like if some day humans invent them. However, when
you do want to emulate things found in real life, it’s important to consider how they actually operate there,
and to make your designs reflect that.
