Scrum isn’t just for business.
In the next few chapters, we discuss some areas of your life in which you may not have considered implementing scrum. Talking about your personal life in scrum terms may seem to lack emotion, but our personal lives involve prioritizing and making critical decisions with imperfect information and an unknown future, just like in business.
As you read this chapter and Chapter 18, keep the following in mind:
- In business, the product backlog applies to a product being developed — a vehicle for delivering value, which may be a software or hardware product, a service, or something more abstract. In family and personal endeavors, a product may be a vacation or wedding plan, a relationship, an education, or a retirement plan.
- When we speak of customers in business, we’re talking about people who will use the product. In personal and family endeavors, a customer may be you, your family, your teacher, or your future self in retirement.
