The previous chapters covered some of the “teething” problems that deploying software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) can introduce into the business. At this point in the technology lifecycle, there’s enough information available such that a CIO can identify and define these problems during the planning stage, and there are several technologies and techniques to mitigate them. In addition, because the potential benefits of SDN and NFV clearly make this a worthwhile exercise, these problems are not going to be insurmountable.
