Getting Started with Search-Engine Optimization
Choose a Topic
If you are starting from scratch and do not have a previously developed website to optimize, choosing a topic for your website is the first step in starting a successful search-engine-optimization plan.
To get started, narrow your topic and stay focused. If you are developing a website about mortgages, consider focusing on a specific topic within the overall topic of “mortgages,” such as “Pennsylvania mortgages” or the even more specific “Wilkes-Barre mortgages.” Although less traffic exists for sites targeting these more specific terms such as Wilkes-Barre mortgages, there is also less competition and a higher likelihood of achieving top search-engine ranking.
