Seconds-in-Command must obtain information throughout the organization to stay ahead of the game and solve problems. As a result, 2iCs need to continually leverage existing relationships and also build new relationships well beyond their immediate team, department, or even division. Every 2iC interviewed for this book talked about how important it was for them to build relationships and establish trust in order to fulfill their duties, including information gathering.
