8. Working with Camera Raw
Camera Raw was the final piece that fell into place to make digital photography truly professional. Most mid-range to high-end digital cameras being sold today shoot in Raw format. What that means is that the camera saves the highest quality uncompressed image that it can directly to your memory card. All digital cameras being sold today shoot in JPEG format by default. However, with JPEG there is some image quality lost almost immediately after snapping the picture. This is due to the JPEG format itself, which is a lossy format that throws away some information to make the file smaller. You usually lose some color and some definition in the image—the higher the JPEG compression, the more you’ll lose.
