The Five Ps

The reader will notice that during the description of the software systems life cycle, we worked very hard to avoid using the terms process, program, project, product, and portfolio. But now, with a basic understanding of the software systems life cycle it’s time to start looking at those terms and where they apply throughout the life cycle.

The first two terms to consider are portfolio and product. A portfolio is a group of software systems that provide a range of capabilities in support of an organization and are managed as a comprehensive set. The key is being managed as a set.
