Compliance is the act of ensuring that our systems, processes, and deliverables meet specified requirements. Compliance of software systems and services is the same as compliance in any other industry or field, such as compliance to the rules of the road when driving. In the field of IT, compliance ranges from how to install the products (often dictated by the product manufacturers) to ensuring relevant regulations, laws, and standards are met by the software systems and services. Often not complying with expectations, regulations, standards, or laws has negative consequences.
