Operations is the process of managing, monitoring, and supporting systems to ensure they are functioning properly and securely, that users are able to perform their needed tasks, and that potential issues are identified as rapidly as possible, hopefully before they cause problems. Operations are usually performed by a dedicated group in an organization. However, in small organizations, operations tasks may be an extra duty.
