Maintenance involves the tasks taken to anticipate, respond to, and apply changes, modifications, and improvements to a system. Maintenance may be periodic and routine, or it may be applied in response to specific events and conditions. Maintenance may be performed by an organization that uses a system, by the organization that develops a system, or by both. Maintenance of systems focuses on increasing reliability, performance, and security.
