In March 2003, Microsoft released to manufacturing the current flagship for Terminal Services in the form of Windows Server 2003. Great advancements in security, scalability, and manageability were the bedrock of this release. With these improvements to the core platform, several major changes were made to the Terminal Services portion of that platform. Taking a queue from the Windows XP platform, Microsoft changed the name of Terminal Services to Remote Desktop—although most practitioners continue to refer to the feature set as Terminal Services.
