Abstract

Information-centric security is basically a paradigm employed for securing the information concerned (processed data) rather than the security of the networks or applications. In this context, database forms a main element of recent web-based apps and statistic-providing devices, as it eases and promotes the storage of application-related details that should be obtainable, procured and administered through the web. There is a growing concern about the risk exposure of these information management systems due to the recent rapid proliferation of various web-based information systems. Intrusion detection can be depicted as “the problem of detecting individuals who are using any of the devices without any type of permission (i.e., ‘outsider threat’) and those who possess beneficial allowance to the devices but are misusing their chances (i.e., ‘insider threat’).” In this chapter we discuss the various concepts such as confidentiality, integrity and availability; and provide brief introduction to intrusion detection systems (IDS) that dynamically checks ...
