Chapter 13

Legal Considerations and Prevention Strategies

Abstract

Regardless of how much security you have, your organization is still at risk for litigation if something goes wrong. It can be very costly to defend a civil suit, regardless of the merits of the case or how flawed it might be. Because of that, we will identify in this chapter steps that you can take to reduce your liability exposure to things like premises liability and negligent hiring or retention. We will explain crime prevention measures and loss prevention strategies. Also discussed in detail will be how to identify threats against your organization and the proper steps to conduct a security vulnerability analysis of your organization.
