Let’s imagine that you are the first on the scene of a serious, mass-casualty, road traffic collision. Not everyone involved will have life-threatening injuries, so before jumping straight into treating the casualties, you need to analyze the situation and to prioritize those casualties that need to have their injuries treated first.
Just because one casualty is screaming louder than another does not mean that they may be the higher priority. You need to understand the context of each casualty’s injuries and the extent to which they might be life-threatening.
