Open-Source Update Managers

If your resources are limited or if you prefer open-source solutions on principle, alternatives are available. As with other open-source solutions, the additional cost is in time.

Some of the tools are already available. Earlier in this chapter, you read about tools such as dnf-automatic and unattended-upgrades, which you can configure to automatically download and install updated packages. With appropriate changes, such updates can be limited to security-related updates. You can exclude certain packages from the update. If additional system monitoring is required, you may be able to set up logging to a centralized server.
