Understand, explain, and participate in documentation.
What can we say but document, document, document? Document everything you do and be as detailed as necessary. It is a hard habit to get into but one worthy of the effort. Documenting security is particularly important because of the impact it can have on business and the potential impact if legal action is involved. Without proper documentation, the time, energy, and money spent creating and deploying security on your network will become worthless in months or possibly even weeks. Most, if not all, of the documentation should be generated throughout the security process. From planning, to deployment, to ongoing management, documentation is the key to long-term success.
