6.2. Security and Performance
The topics of security and performance go hand in hand. In some cases, such as when preventing system abuse via spam or mail bombing, an improvement in security will result in an improvement in performance. In other cases, increasing security through additional database lookups, DNS requests, or use of strong encryption brings a cost in performance to some aspect of the system.
