18.7. Summary of the Chapter
Linear programming has proven to be a popular tool that can handle a wide variety of service operations management problems. Although a graphical method can be used to actually solve small problems, most organizations have access to LP software that runs on either microcomputers or larger systems and uses a solution procedure known as the simplex algorithm. LP not only finds optimal solutions to problems that can be formulated mathematically, but it also provides valuable management information in the form of shadow pricing and sensitivity analysis.
