These devices, whether a single unit or separate, form what is known as the head end of a dish installation. These are the electronics sitting at the end of the boom (although not necessarily in front of the dish). When considering servicing and reliability, one has to consider the overriding factor that these units are normally operating in rather adverse conditions for electronics – in the cold in winter, and heat during the summer, the temperature range can be great. Add to this the possibility of extreme rain and wind and you cannot really blame them for the odd failure!
