There is a certain amount of information that is general to satellite TV servicing that cannot be pigeon-holed into one of the rather specific contexts of the chapters of this book. Similarly other information is not specific to satellite – general consumer electronics data that is necessary to enable us to interface satellite systems with the rest of the world. Herewith then a compendium of these matters.
Resistor colour code
The colour code is no longer the only way of marking resistor values as it was on lower wattage types. The advent of the SMD brought the need for a different method, explained in Chapter 15. This excepts the MELF (metal ended leadless frame) type of device which still uses the colours.
