Abstract
Digital disruption in African cities is part of the global phenomenon of platform urbanism, where the seemingly banal features of the platform economy impact on local dynamics of place and community. Concerns about the externalities associated with the practices of these multinational companies are no doubt and legitimate but do beg the question as to whether endogenous innovations relate more closely to the local qualities of place.
