In anticipation of the chance to revive his company flotation business, Hatry changed address, moving to Pinners Hall. This was a multi-occupancy building which had been completed just before the 1914–1918 war and stood at the far end of Austin Friars. It also fronted Old Broad Street and Great Winchester Street, boasting three addresses and as many exits.1 In this, Pinners Hall recalled the office of Augustus Melmotte, the company promoter in Trollope’s novel, The Way We Live Now, who found his office’s several exits most convenient when avoiding aggrieved investors.2
