There are a lot of scenarios in which you might want to integrate data from external systems into SharePoint. External systems are any systems that store data outside of SharePoint. For example your company might store its customer information in a CRM system or its HR data in an HR system, but use SharePoint for its corporate intranet. Now wouldn’t it be nice if all employees could create, read, update, and delete data from the CRM and HR systems from a familiar SharePoint site?
