Starting up a new portal in SharePoint online is similar to creating a new portal inside your company; however, the hurdle of identifying the hardware and the services on which it will run is taken off the table. What’s put back on the table is figuring out how you’ll create your online users and what permissions they’ll be assigned in the new environment. The last thing you have to decide is when your new portal is ready for primetime.

Planning for Your Client Portal

Planning for SharePoint online is similar to planning for a regular SharePoint installation in that you have to determine what the site will be used for and the types of activities that need to be supported in that environment. If you’ve not yet read Chapter 30, you should take a look at that while doing your planning. However, there are a few items that are worth noting when planning your Office 365 environment.
