Microsoft Power BI (pronounced “bee-eye” as an acronym for Business Intelligence) is a cloud-based business analytics service. It can be found at https://powerbi.microsoft.com. You don’t need to have an Office 365 subscription in order to use Power BI; there is a free version available to get you started, and a more advanced version (called Power BI Pro) for which you pay a small monthly subscription fee (around $10 a month). If you purchase an Office 365 E5 subscription, you get the Pro version of Power BI included.

In this chapter, we focus on how you can integrate SharePoint with Power BI. You learn how to build a report with Power BI and how to connect your reports to SharePoint so that people can use them without ever needing to leave a SharePoint site.
