Chapter 27Your Own Hosting Account

Chapter Objectives

  • Learn what web hosting is.
  • Understand what to look for in a web host.
  • Learn how to connect your domain name to it.

Once you have your domain name, you’ll need a place to host your new site. Hosting refers to the place where your website, store, or blog will reside. Many domain registrars include free basic hosting as part of their domain name registration package but if you are running a website critical to your business, you’ll want to evaluate these “deals” carefully. If you accept their free hosting you may also have to accept their own branding or advertising on your site. I prefer to host my sites at a place where hosting is the main business, not a sideline.
