Exposure Modes
Three settings on your camera control the exposure. The ISO controls the camera sensor’s sensitivity to light, the shutter speed controls how long the shutter is open to allow light to reach the sensor, and the aperture controls the size of the opening in the lens. Let’s take a closer look at these three settings.
• ISO. The ISO describes how sensitive to light the sensor in the camera is. Since the sensor doesn’t actually physically change, what the ISO controls is how much the signal from the sensor is amplified as the camera processes the light that hits the sensor.
