When I think about social media, the channels or platforms that come to mind are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and, more recently, Snapchat and TikTok. In the ‘old days’, a business could get significant reach, or even go viral, simply by posting engaging content, which would be organically viewed by thousands, sometimes millions, of people. Over time, as people have flocked to these social media platforms, the corporations have made it harder and harder to give businesses organic reach, instead prioritizing paid placements or ads (such as the Facebook ads I talk about in Chapter 16).
