This chapter presents a sampling of devices that are available to the system designer for developing a short-range radio system. Devices are categorized as wireless modules and chips, systems on a chip (SOC), and chips for wireless connectivity standards including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IEEE 802.15.4 devices. Most of the companies mentioned have application notes and demonstration boards which can help in deciding what device to use and also assist in the design itself.
