Can you say ‘I'm talented’, to yourself, without giggling, brushing it off or looking around to see if anyone heard you?
You are talented.
And you told us you were. Remember that interview? How many of us got the jobs we're doing by describing how utterly talentless, useless and unhelpful to a business we would be? In our interviews, we talked about what we could do and gave an insight into those areas in which we were (moderately, if we're British) talented. And that's what our employer bought…and therefore what they're rightfully expecting.
