Target range tracking is accomplished by continuously measuring the time delay between the transmission of an RF pulse and the echo signal returned from the target and converting the roundtrip delay into units of distance. The range measurement is the most precise position-coordinate measurement of the radar; typically, with high SNR, it can be within a few meters at hundreds-of-kilometers range.
