This appendix provides brief explanations of key concepts discussed in the book and provides a single location where most of the important concepts can easily be found for review. The appendix divides these concepts into the following three sections, which mirror the overall structure of the book:
Mathematical Concepts
Enterprise Architecture Concepts
SIP Concepts
This arrangement provides a context for the concepts as you review them.
SIP is based on a mathematical model for complexity and how partitioning reduces complexity. It is not necessary to understand this model fully to use SIP, but it helps and, for many, makes the reasons for the process more understandable.
