Stuart was the younger of my mother's two older brothers. As children, they lived in a lovely house near Willesden in North London. One morning though, Stuart, in a moment of youthful enthusiasm, managed to make the house a little less lovely by poking a pencil through what had been a tiny hole in a wall in his bedroom. By the time he had finished poking, the hole was certainly noticeable. It was so noticeable that poor Stuart was sent to bed without any supper.
