Battery Basics
This chapter is devoted to basic problems involved in selecting the right battery for micropower circuits. We start with a summary of battery types.
2.1 Dry Cells
There are three popular cell types based on zinc and carbon: the standard LeClanche dry cell, the “heavy duty” zinc-chloride dry cell, and the alkaline-manganese dry cell. As shown in Table 2–1, there is about a 3-to-1 difference in capacity between the alkaline and LeClanche at a 100-hour discharge rate.
