Why f/11?
The formal altar setting is crucial to the picture, and it needed to be sharp. With a 24–70mm lens on the camera, f/11 gave me good DOF throughout the entire frame.
Why end up at 1/125th at f/11?
The ambient light was dim and virtually useless. I would have had to drag, drag, drag my shutter to really slow speeds to pull it into the exposure pattern at f/11. So, this combo just X’d out all the ambient. It gave me a black room, an empty canvas over which I had control. I built the light from the ground up.
