Sketching figures teaches us speed and how to capture the bare essentials of form and gesture. I sketch people in train stations, cafés, in the park, anywhere I can sit and people watch. The challenge is to capture a gesture quickly. People don’t tend to stand still waiting for us to finish our drawings. We must be quick with our pen.
