Modeling a Two-Story House Interior

Objective: This chapter models a two-story home interior, stairs, and cabinets, and utilizes layers and the Outliner.

Tools: Follow Me, Axis, Intersect Faces, Paint Bucket, Outliner

Concepts and Functions: layers, edit an AutoCAD plan inside SketchUp, model a staircase, guard, cabinets, beveled cabinet doors, crown molding, and mansard roof; change endpoint appearance, divide a line, autofold, Components dialog box, components in model, smooth/soften curves, mirror with the scale tool, apply the default paint color, reverse faces, orient faces, relocate a component axis, monochrome face style, field of view, definition name, instance name

In Chapter 5 we modeled simple spaces. Here, we’ll build on the tools and techniques learned there to make an interior model of a two-story home. Our approach will be: (1) Import and model a raster first-floor plan, (2) make a shell to enclose the floors, and (3) import and model an AutoCAD second-floor plan.
