Abstract:

Though considered a modern energy efficient technology, combined heat and power (CHP) has its genesis in the factories of the industrial revolution during the late nineteenth century. It lost its place in industry to central electricity generation and national grids, but through the latter part of the last century, with the development of reliable prime movers and the advent of microprocessor-based controls, resurgence has taken place.
