Establishing Your Online Home Base
This section is for the nearly half of all small businesses (and I hope that number has gone down by the time you read this sentence) without a website. You can’t pull people to your business if you don’t have an online location for them to reach. To be credible, you need the following:
A site you control. A listing in a chamber of commerce or industry directory doesn’t count because you can’t control what’s there or interact with customers through that listing.
A site that’s findable and reachable by a search for your business name.
A site that accurately establishes your business and brand image, with a great “About” section where media types and those seeking everything from speakers to industry resources can access professional, reproducible material. For information on this website component, turn to Chapter 17.
A site that you can easily update with information about your business.
