Chapter Thirteen

The Future of Small Wind

Factors That May or May Not Affect the Growth of Small Wind

Abstract

Over the past ten years, small wind has seen steady growth, with the number of machines sold increasing yearly. Small wind industry leaders agree that factors like education, policies, improved technology, standards and certification, and availability of components will influence the future of small wind, but they cannot agree on their relative importance. Siting and zoning policies may be more important in urban or more densely populated areas, whereas pricing and incentives may be more important in rural and remote areas. However, cost will always remain an important factor influencing the growth of the small wind industry.
