9.1 Introduction
Advances in science and technologies over the past few centuries have arguably become a prominent aspect for human living conditions. But, with a holistic approach, it can be concluded that even though the quality of life is apparently improving, our ecosystem is deteriorating in a critical manner; the major reason being the nonscientific approaches being made to meet our day‐to‐day energy demands. This section outlines why our energy sources should be made “clean” in the context of their ecologically friendly nature and how this can be achieved. Also is outlined the contributions that biomass can provide in this area.
