If you are a mom, then you’ve probably noticed that having babies is pretty expensive. Babies born today cost the average American family about a quarter of a million dollars before they turn eighteen, and that figure doesn’t even include college tuition. After considering inflation, we spend about 22 percent more on our children than our grandparents did, thanks largely to the cost of child care and higher standards for everything from food to clothing to activities.
