XML Schema Basics
XML Schema is defined by a set of specifications from the World Wide Web Consortium1 and is used as a core metadata language to describe and constrain an XML instance such as a message. XML Schemas are requisite to Web services and participate in the definition of the Web service interface “contract.” Like WSDL and SOAP, the syntax and encoding of an XML Schema is XML. As with any application of XML, this helps to promote interoperability. It also requires that the XML Schema language syntax complies with the syntactical rules of XML. This includes strict compliance with the open and close tag notation and the attribute-value-pair syntax.
