Promoting Yourself with LinkedIn
IN THIS CHAPTER
Using LinkedIn as an online resume
Highlighting your career
Endorsing and being endorsed
Private messaging with LinkedIn
LinkedIn sometimes gets a bum rap because people aren’t sure how to use it, or because they don’t see the same type of interaction as they do on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. However, different social networks serve different purposes, and thus they’re used differently. Don’t write off LinkedIn just because it’s more about business than cat photos. If you use it on a regular basis, it can be a formidable part of your marketing plan — not just in finding work but also in making important connections.
LinkedIn isn’t merely a place to post your resume. Use it to connect with old business associates and meet new associates. You can share your achievements, recommend colleagues, find jobs, and join discussion groups filled with like-minded people. You can also use LinkedIn to promote your brand with brand pages or groups. Many businesses are using LinkedIn to connect with a more professional crowd.
