Introduction

There is no sin so great as ignorance. Remember this.

According to the first line of their website, “Inc. 5000 are the superheroes of the U.S. economy. America’s fastest-growing private companies wield powers like strategy, service, and innovation.”

These superheroes are the newcomers to business and so, by definition, newcomers to marketing. Their example—surely—must represent the future of effective marketing. And that marketing future must lie in the arms of social media. Why? Because everyone says so. Well nearly everyone. Some people are standing up in the crowd and suggesting that we are all being told how handsome the Emperor looks in his new clothes.
