Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, “hangs out” on microblogging site Twitter and chats one-on-one with consumers about everything from their favorite styles of shoes to ideas about the company’s philanthropic goals. The CEO of BlendTec, a company that makes high-end blenders (yes, the kind you’d use to make a smoothie or a margarita) produces inexpensive videos in which he demonstrates the power of his company’s products by blending iPhones, ballpoint pens, lightsticks, and other objects. Silly? Maybe, but the company’s videos draw millions of viewers, translating into brand awareness, traffic to BlendTec’s website, and revenue.
