11.5  PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

Production systems are intelligent systems that are structured to facilitate a state space search procedure. There are three main components of a production system. These are

  1. A global database
  2. A set of production rules
  3. A control system

Global database is the central data structure which is accessed, modified and manipulated throughout the problem solving process. Usually, the situation prevailing in the global database defines a state within the state space. A change in the global database corresponds to a move from one state to another state.
