Chapter 22. Growth
There is an important interaction between growth and productivity. A very simple model can enable managers to better understand what occurs as new team members are integrated into an existing organization. While straightforward, the model also permits some interesting predictions; and with some simple graphs, I can show how the various factors interact.
There are no clear answers to all the problems that growth presents, but I believe good managers can learn to manipulate the parameters that define the model. It can pay big dividends to balance organizational development (“OD,” with its focus on growth) with project management (“PM,” with its focus on productivity).
