Software Performance Engineering
Robert Oshana
This case study will look at the application of software performance engineering (SPE) to a real industry project. SPE is a set of techniques for gathering data, constructing a system performance model, evaluating the performance model, managing the risk of uncertainty, evaluating alternatives, and verifying the models and results. SPE also includes strategies for the effective use of these techniques. Expensive disasters can be avoided when system performance evaluation takes place relatively early in the software development life-cycle. Applications will generally have better performance when alternative designs are evaluated prior to implementation.
